Unpublished Manuscripts Type Description and Detail
"Biographical material relating to Louis G. (Luigi) Rist, 1941-1971" by Barbara Whipple Heilman

This is more of a family history.

Unpublished manuscript scanned for this site and made available by Grant Heilman. MS Word Document; scanned and  edited by Tom Gilchrist from a poor copy of the original.  Perhaps someone would like to edit and revise this Word version (ver 1).  I did not change the basic text....just some spelling.  There is a version of this paper at the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution ( I am trying to get this version to see if it is the same).

In 1939, Rist copyrighted a lettering chart. In 1941 he received a certificate “Proof of Invention” (~200K jpg) from the “Chartered Institute of      American Inventors".   For further info on this item, see "The Work of Luigi Rist" by Barbara Whipple Heilman.

Braithwaite: The Lost Ladies Collection

Presented by Joan Braithwaite Haller

Self published hardbound book in color.  No mention of Luigi Rist in the book.  However,  an email conversation with Joan about her father and Rist is documented on the "Braithwaite"  page.  Some very interesting opinions on "Nude 1", "Nude 2" and her fathers nudes.

This book is very attractive, lots of color, and interesting.  Art contains ad layout work, various subjects and, of course, "the ladies".

Ted Braithwaite was a close friend of Luigi Rist for many years.  The "Nude 1" print is signed "Braithwaite & Rist".  I don't know how "Nude 2" is signed.

This book can be ordered from:
